Insight on the Google Android Operating System

Mobile phones, at first, didn't have operating systems like mobile phones do now. The first few phones that handled operating systems, like the ones we have now, were the phones that were manufactured in the late 90's. Palm was one of the first companies to release their phones out with their own Palm OS. Then the Windows Mobile OS was placed on smart phones, and now Google is joining in on the fun, with their Android OS.

The Android OS is not only for mobile phones, but also for certain tablets and netbooks as well. When it was released in October of 2008, reviewers said that it was just Google's way of earning more money. But not anymore. The Android system is quickly becoming the main reason that customers buy certain phones and computers. In July 2005, Google purchased Android, Inc, which was just a start-up company based out of Palo Alto, California, and that's where it all began.

Many phones that are being released for retail purchase are not supporting the Android system. Phones like the HTC Hero, LG Ally, Motorola Droid and Samsung Moment, which are smart phones, have been the biggest sellers out of the mobile phones with the Android OS. The Android OS has the Android Market, which is like the iTunes store on iPhones. The great thing about the Android Market is that 70% of the applications and games are free. There are about 100,000 applications on the Android Market. The Android OS also supports GSM, EDGE, 3G and Wi-Fi internet connections.

The future for the Android OS is heading more towards computers. Big names like Acer, Dell, Samsung, Sharp and Toshiba are all putting out tablet computers that support the Android OS. The Android OS seems to be getting more popular the more companies try to compete with them.
