What's So Special About SLR Digital Cameras?

The craze nowadays is digital cameras. Many electronic retail stores have a plethora of digital cameras just sitting out on display, waiting for a customer to pick them up. But many people forget about the other type of cameras out there. Many professional photographers are not interested in regular digital cameras. There are many different varieties to digital cameras, and many of them are geared towards a more professional crowd. One of the popular brands among professional photographers is the SLR cameras.

SLR cameras, or Single-lens reflex cameras, are cameras that usually uses a semi-automatic moving mirror system which allows the photographer to see exactly what will be captured by the camera by the film, used when the SLR cameras first came out, or by the digital imaging system. The SLR cameras are mainly used by paparazzi photographers, or photographers during a photo shoot for magazines and websites.

Many of the older SLR cameras only used film. Up until the 90's, the SLR cameras that used film would be the most technologically advanced cameras created. During the 90's is when the the creation of the digital camera took place and took over the world of cameras and photo taking. It was only a matter of time before the SLR camera replaced its film canister for a little memory card.

Digital SLR cameras, or DSLR cameras, use a mechanical mirror system, which differs from the moving mirror system of the regular SLR cameras, and a pentaprism. A pentaprism is a five-sided, reflecting prism that deviates the light from the lens of the camera to the optical viewfinder on the back of the camera. DSLR cameras are the norm when it comes to professional photographers. There are different attachments for the lens that you can purchase separately that will make the picture quality better, and, depending on the type of photo shoot you are doing, might work better than using the regular lens.

The main different, besides from the picture quality, between regular digital cameras and SLR cameras is definitely the price. Regular digital cameras can cost from $80-$200, while SLR cameras start at $300 and can go up to over $1000. But if your a professional photographer, it might be worth it to give up the extra money for a much better camera, that can give you a much better picture.
